Mike was born in Bombay, India . When he was 7 he was sent to England to prep. School (as was the done thing) where he was very unhappy and was physically abused with beatings from the head master. He then went to Dean Close where he excelled in sports, gaining colours in cricket, hockey and rugby. Mike has always been a prankster and there he put itching powder on his house master’s loo seat, but even so, he still made prefect!
When he left school he did National Service in the Commandos and was actively engaged in flushing out terrorists in Cyprus. He turned down the opportunity of becoming an officer and left to join The Metal Box Company in London.
He then moved to Poole in Dorset and joined the Bournemouth Times, followed by two advertising agencies in Bournemouth and, after successfully running the Bournemouth office of A.T.A., he was promoted to the London office. In the meantime he had married Beverley.
Beverley continues:
We moved to Woking, Surrey and it was there that we first encountered Jesus at a “Come Together “service. We then joined the Coign Fellowship under Harold Owen and there we were firmly founded on the Word of God and the Holy Spirit. We also adopted our two wonderful children Simon and Kate.
Mike’s time in London became very challenging as he stood up for righteousness in the market place and consequently lost his job on more than one occasion. But Jesus was always faithful and having boxes of groceries on our doorstop, money in the collection and one occasion coal delivered to our bunker saw us all grow in faith. Our children loved it when Mike was unemployed as he was very creative in his play time with them, making zip wires and taking them on adventures on the common.
Mike also worked in Bracknell, Plymouth and Bristol and we moved to Olveston, Bristol. It was while we were living there that Mike visited Zambia, as part of a mission team from Bristol Christian Fellowship, that he heard the Holy Spirit telling him that 0this was where he had dreamed about living 12 years before. We became House Parents to the boys at the Secondary School called Chengelo and also taught Biblical Studies and games. After receiving a prophetic word and testing it we moved to Kaniki Bible College, Ndola, a Danish Bible/Mission station where our son met his beautiful Danish wife to be Anne-Grethe. We were in Zambia for 8 years. Mike taught at the Bible College and mentored local pastors in the rural and township areas where he witnessed many miracles and healings, including a resurrection from the dead.
When we returned to the UK we relocated to Weymouth to be near our elderly mums and attend a vibrant church there.
Mike took a job as a porter in Dorchester County Hospital and continued with his ministry of encouragement and fun. It was while he was wheeling a patient, who Mike was pastoring in the local church, that he was spotted praying as the doors of his lift opened and he was reported and duly fired! Because of this incident a friend told Mike about Healing Rooms and Mike and I were invited to go to Spokane and receive training on healing from Cal Pierce. We then started H.Rs. for Mid-Dorset in a Methodist Church in Portland and then we were invited to minister in two doctors surgeries, one in Portland and the other in Dorchester. It was a wonderfully blessed time with many healings and a few miracles too. We also represented H.Rs. in Finland, Ukraine and Poland as well as starting H.Rs. in Denmark and Malta.
Later Mike had arthritis so badly in his hands that he could no longer hold a pen, but then Jesus healed him and he wrote and illustrated “Swordtalk” by hand. He then took the book and ministered in Scotland, U.S.A. Denmark and Malta as well as in England. He used the sale of “Swordtalk” to support the work of Child of Hope in Uganda.
Mike was also a dearly loved husband, Dad and Oompa. He will be greatly missed.
